053 Anonymous – Hikone Butsudan Maker

By admin-alana, April 23, 2018

Hikone is the most famous region in Japan for the making of Buddhist alters. We were privileged to meet some of the women who build and craft them.
The interviewee’s boss requested that we kept the interview anonymous. It was not clear if this was the request of the company or the individual.

This interview is in Japanese, currently without subtitles available. We hope to add these very soon.

This interview is part of a growing international archive documenting the experiences of women working in manual trades and non traditional employment.

This interview took place on 23/04/2018 at the Butsudan factory in Hikone (Japan).
